Samson Gabriel
Samson Gabriel was born in Russia and studied fine art in Tajikistan and Estonia. His travels throughout the former Soviet Union, Europe and South America inspire his work conceptually and technically. His art examines the actual, natural and metaphorical, and includes dreamy landscapes, glimpses of nostalgic moments in time, and surreal and abstract representations.
Early in his career, Samson explored the complex relationship between the ordinary and mythical, an artistic inquiry that eventually led to his intricate, reconstructive approach to both everyday and culturally significant objects, landscapes and events.
He thinks of his work as a bridge that links reality to abstraction and explores themes of life, death, nature, transformation, nostalgia and regeneration. He uses both traditional and non-traditional tools to create richly layered and visual textures in his paintings.
Samson’s work can be found in numerous public and private art collections both in the United States and abroad, and has been seen in numerous exhibitions worldwide. He currently lives and works in New York City.
